MATERIALS: Lily Sugar’n Cream 4 Ply (Solids 2.5 oz / 70.9 g / Ombres 2 oz / 56.7 g)
Main Color (MC) 2 balls Solids or Ombres
Contrast A 1 ball Solids or Ombres
Contrast B 1 ball Solids or Ombres
Contrast C 1 ball Solids or Ombres
Contrast D 1 ball Solids or Ombres
Small amount of yellow for Bullion st.

Size 4.50 mm (U.S. 7) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE: 13 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS
Note:
To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook. Draw loop in next color through 2 loops on hook to complete st and proceed in next color.

With MC, ch 7.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 6 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: As 2nd row.
4th row: (Buttonhole row). Ch 1. 1 sc in first 2 sc. Ch 2. Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 5 ins [12.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row.

Proceed as follows:
1st row: Working in back loop only of each st, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 8 sc. Turn.
2nd row: Working in both loops, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 4 times. Turn. 12 sc.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
5th row: Working in back loop only of each st, as 2nd row.
6th row: Working in both loops, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. (1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. 16 sc. Turn.
7th and 8th rows: As 4th row.
9th row: Working in back loop only of each st, ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. (1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. 20 sc. Turn.
10th row: Working in both loops, as 2nd row.
11th row: As 4th row.
12th row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. (1 sc in each of next 4 sc. 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 4 sc. 24 sc. Turn.
13th row: Working in back loops only, as 2nd row.
14th and 15th rows: Working in both loops, as 4th row. Fasten off.

With RS of work facing, join B with ss to first front loop of 1st row.
**1st row: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last ss. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
2nd row: With A, ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1). 1 dc in next sc. *(Ch 1. 1 dc) twice all in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Fasten off. **

With RS of work facing, join B with ss to first front loop of 5th row. Work from ** to ** as given above.

With RS of work facing, join B with ss to first front loop of 9th row. Work from ** to ** as given above.

With RS of work facing, join B with ss to first front loop of 13th row. Work from ** to ** as given above.

Fold top in half to WS and sew button in position. Sew Pansy at RS as illustrated.

Pansy: With D, ch 4. Join with ss to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with ss to first sc. Break D.
2nd rnd: Join B with ss to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 ss in first ch – Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with ss to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Embroider bullion st at center of Pansy.
