Lily® Sugar ’n Cream® (70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds)
Contrast A (00095 Red) 1 ball
Contrast B (01628 Hot Orange) 1 ball
Contrast C (00073 Sunshine) 1 ball
Contrast D (01712 Hot Green) 1 ball
Contrast E (01215 Robin’s Egg) 1 ball
Contrast F (01742 Hot Blue) 1 ball
Contrast G (01317 Hot Purple) 1 ball
Contrast H (00071 Grape) 1 ball
Note: 1 ball each of A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H will make approx 7 Pencil Cases.
Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Fabric for lining approx 17 x 20" [43 x 51 cm]. Sewing thread. Matching embroidery floss. Elastic ¾" [2 cm] wide x 16” [40.5 cm] long.

GAUGE
20 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS
Stripe Pat: Work 12 rows of each color in the following sequence: A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. These 96 rows form Stripe Pat.
With A, cast on 45 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *Sl1wyif. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: K1. *K1. Sl1wyif. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
4th row: Purl.
First 4 rows of Stripe Pat are complete.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last 4 rows until all 96 rows of Stripe Pat are complete. Cast off.
Tie: With D, cast on 90 sts. Cast off.
Trim fabric lining to measure 16 x 19" [40.5 x 48 cm]. With sewing thread, sew lining to Pencil Case around perimeter, using a ½" [1 cm] seam allowance along top and sides. Fold bottom 2" [5 cm] of Case to WS to form pocket. With embroidery floss to match color of stripes, sew through all thicknesses from bottom to top of pocket along center line. Rep stitching 1" [2.5 cm] apart on both sides to form slots for pencils. Sew elastic in position (see picture). Stitch slots for pencils in same spots as for bottom pocket.
Optional: Color elastic with colored pencils to match colors of Pencil Case.
Place marker on Tie approx 6" [15 cm] from one end. Sew Tie at marker to outer end of Case as shown in photo, leaving long end of Tie to wrap around Case.
