MEASUREMENTS
Approx 7" [18 cm] long, excluding tie.

MATERIALS
Lily Sugar ’n Cream (70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds)
Ombre: 56.7 g/2 oz; 86 m/95 yds)
Hippi (02122) 1 ball
or
Hot Pink (01740) 1 ball
or
Mod Green (01223) 1 ball

Note: 1 Solid ball will make 3 Pencil Holders. 1 Ombre ball will make 2 Pencil Holders.

Set of four size 4 mm (U.S. 6) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 1 button.

GAUGE
21 sts and 27 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
With pair of needles, cast on 4 sts.
Knit 8 rows (garter st).

Beg working in rnds: Cast on 5 sts. 9 sts.
Divide sts evenly on 3 needles. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
Knit in rnds until work from first rnd measures 5" [12.5 cm].
Next rnd: K4. Cast off 5 sts loosely.

Beg working in rows: Knit 5 rows (garter st) over 4 sts.
Next row: (K2tog) twice. 2 sts.
Next row: K2. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew button to bottom of Pencil Holder as shown in picture.

Twisted Cord: Cut 2 strands of yarn 75" [190.5 cm] long. With both strands tog, hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves tog. Sew to top of pencil holder as shown in picture.

Pom-pom: Wind yarn around 3 fingers approx 50 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Attach to cord end.
